Thanks for the question. Under the gouache I applied a layer of gesso.

Thanks so much! I just came into possesion of some very old hand-written manuscripts and sheet music frim 17th/18th century. I want to paint transparent images on them, so that the script shows through. I have transparent gesso, but I’m terrified that even this will cause the ink to run. I’ll have to sacrifice the most tattered one for testing. I was also considering a spray-on glaze. Wish me luck! Julia

I like this painting too Charles – can’t decide if you’re looking forward to Halloween or just got back from a Grateful Dead concert , either way two of my favorite things !
